ITMA Invites Experts for Knowledge Sharing on the Materials Characterization Techniques

24 OCTOBER, Serdang – ITMA has invited several experts to share the materials characterization techniques through talk in the "Materials Characterization Seminar 2019" held at the ITMA Seminar Room recently. Besides the sharing, ITMA would also like to promote the available facilities and testing services offered to UPM researchers particularly and other institutions generally.

In this 3-day seminar, the participants which comprised of students and young researchers were able to learn and enhance the understanding of several main materials characterization techniques; X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Surface Area Particle Size Analyzer, Nanosizer, Raman Spectroscopy, Multimode Reader (Fluorescence, Absorbance & Luminescence), Ultra High-Resolution Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX). The invited experts were Mr Tue Chuan Huat, Technical Advisor from RGS Corporation Sdn. Bhd., Prof. Dr Mohd Zobir Hussein, ITMA Research Fellow, Dr Nizam Tamchek, Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Science UPM, Ms Hong Chia Yean, Field Applications Specialist from Chemopharm Sdn. Bhd., Mr Ho Oi Kuan, Application Specialist from Crest Nanosolutions Sdn. Bhd. and Dr Wu Jiang, Application Scientist from Oxford Instrument, Singapore.

On day three, the participants were brought for a laboratory tour to see the demonstrations inclusive of other equipment such as Universal Tensile Machine (UTM), Rheometer, Gas Chromatography, Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR), UV-Visible Spectrometer, Inkjet Deposition System and Vector Network Analyzer (VNA). Demonstration sessions were conducted by several ITMA researchers and technical staff.

A total of 25 participants from the UPM and other institutions have attended this seminar. It is hoped that this seminar which was initiated since last year will be beneficial to all participants and can be continued in the future as an expertise sharing platform in materials characterization.
